My parents are avid readers and introduced me to books early in my life. Little Women, the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, and the adventures of Nancy Drew captivated me. My best friend, Lila, and I used to pretend we were Nancy Drew. We captured notes on the activities of our neighbors just in case there would be a major crime to investigate.
As a teenager, I immersed myself constantly in books by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. The local library and bookmobile helped feed my insatiable hunger for new books. My mom often took our family to the independent bookstore, Chinooks, in Colorado Springs.
As I entered the workforce, my voracious reading appetite pivoted to books on business, leadership and DE&I. John Maxwell, Steven Covey, Tony Dungy, Stephen C. Young, Clifton Taulbert, and many others helped me grow and develop as a leader.
Memoirs are my favorite genre, particularly stories of grit, determination, and perseverance. I am a firm believer that truth is often stranger than fiction.
